Colorado Legal Services has released its 2025 Impact Report, highlighting another year of life-changing advocacy for Coloradans facing housing instability, domestic violence, consumer issues, family law matters, access to public benefits, and more.
For more than 100 years, Colorado Legal Services has worked to ensure that low-income Coloradans don’t have to face complex civil legal challenges alone. The new report illustrates both the scale of that work and the individual stories behind it.
In 2025, Colorado Legal Services:
– Closed 8,418 cases benefiting households representing 16,464 people
– Served clients with average annual household incomes of just $13,303 for individuals, $17,978 for families of two, and $27,328 for families of four
– Assisted 2,236 seniors and 612 veterans, active-duty military members, and their family members
– Saw 43% of closed cases involve housing, 20% family law, and 14% consumer issues
But the report isn’t just numbers; it also highlights the people and stories behind the numbers.
Readers will find stories of families securing medically necessary adaptive car seats after repeated Medicaid denials, individuals obtaining long-awaited identity documents needed to work and access essential services, tenants avoiding eviction through innovative medical-legal partnerships, survivors of domestic violence finding stability, and parents rebuilding their futures through record-sealing assistance.
Colorado Legal Services’ impact extends well beyond the courtroom. In 2025, the organization hosted 406 community outreach events reaching more than 12,000 attendees, collaborated with more than 500 community partners, and received nearly 15,000 hours of volunteer service from pro bono attorneys and volunteers. Those efforts helped secure $4.8 million for clients through benefits, tax relief, and other financial recoveries.
The report also reflects on the challenges facing legal aid organizations nationwide, including uncertainty surrounding federal funding, while emphasizing Colorado’s strong commitment to ensuring access to justice. That commitment was evident this year as Colorado’s legal community came together through the Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado’s Associates Campaign and inaugural Corporate Counsel Challenge, raising nearly $700,000 to support the work of Colorado Legal Services.
