Supporters of the license plate at the Colorado House of Representatives.
The Equal Justice for All License Plate bill (HB26-1251) survived its first hurdle, with a bipartisan vote in support at the House Finance Committee. The bill was introduced by introduced by Reps. Junie Joseph and Steve Woodrow.
The bill now heads to the House Appropriations Committee and will continue its way through the House and then, if successful, to the Senate. Joel Minor (Deputy Director for Advocacy, Colorado Legal Services) and Elisa Overall (Executive Director, Access To Justice Commission) testified at the hearing, along with a former client who emphasized the importance of Colorado Legal Services’ work.
To help make sure this bill has the support it needs, we need your help.Â
We need to raise funds to cover the state’s costs in standing up the specialty plate so this bill can carry a no fiscal impact note. We estimate these costs at $32,000, but if the final cost comes in below our estimate, any excess funds will be used to support Colorado Legal Services. Once enacted, the Equal Justice for All license plate will generate revenue for legal services for years to come.
Join us in supporting this impactful project and help drive justice forward.
