Legal Aid Foundation & COLTAF Seek an Associate Director

Are you passionate about improving and expanding access to justice in Colorado?  Are you energized by leveraging your skills and experience to make a difference for underserved Coloradans?

The Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado (LAF) and the Colorado Lawyer Trust Account Foundation (COLTAF) are seeking an Associate Director to help fulfill their respective missions as fund-raising and grant-making organizations for civil legal aid and other access-to-justice-related initiatives.

The organizations share a staff of 3.5 full-time employees, but each is governed by its own Board of Directors. The Associate Director position is a full-time position and reports to the Executive Director.

Major Job Duties and Responsibilities

Fundraising:  Works with Executive Director, Trustees, and other volunteers to sustain and further develop LAF’s annual fundraising campaigns for civil legal aid.  Activities include setting goals and developing strategies; recruiting, training, and motivating volunteers; planning and coordinating solicitations and appropriate follow-up; identifying and cultivating prospective donors; and planning and implementing donor stewardship strategies.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Staffing regional campaign committees in El Paso County, Boulder County, Larimer County, Durango, Grand Junction, Pueblo, and Weld County.
  • Staffing a young lawyers’ advisory board and implementing and directing an annual young lawyers’ campaign.
  • Implementing and managing annual Colorado Gives Day initiative.

Grant-making:  Helps implement and direct COLTAF’s annual grant-making process, including working with lead volunteers to determine direction and goals; coordinating and overseeing grant-making process; and maintaining relationships with and providing support to grantees.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Administering the Pro Bono Grants Program
  • Staffing the Pro Bono Grants Committee

Communications and Outreach:  Works with Executive Director to develop and implement external communications plans for both organizations.

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Coordinating the writing, design and preparation of all printed materials, including annual reports.
  • Press releases.
  • Improving and maintaining websites for both organizations.
  • Developing promotional materials in other media.

Special Events:  Helps plan events, and has primary responsibility for logistical details, including invitation, venue, food and beverage, audio-visual, etc.

Job skills and qualifications:

  • A passion for equal access to justice in Colorado.
  • Bachelor’s degree at a minimum.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Significant fundraising experience.
  • Demonstrated familiarity and experience with the legal community a plus.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to multi-task.
  • Personal attributes of professionalism, integrity, dedication, and initiative.

Salary and benefits:

Salary range of $70,000- $90,000, depending on experience and qualifications.  Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance; a Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) plan; paid vacation and sick leave; paid holidays; and the opportunity to work to advance equal justice in Colorado with others who share that commitment.
