The appropriations process is underway in Congress, and the stakes couldn’t be higher for civil legal aid in Colorado.

Following President Trump’s proposed elimination of all legal aid funding, the House Appropriations Sub- committee released a funding proposal that would cut the Legal Services Corporation (LSC) budget by nearly half, from $560 million in FY 2025 to just $300 million in FY 2026.

While the Senate Appropriations Committee has proposed a modest increase to $566 million, the final outcome is far from guaranteed. For Colorado, the proposed cuts would be a devastating blow, slashing funding for Colorado Legal Services.

Regardless of what happens in Washington, the need for legal aid in Colorado is as urgent as ever. From keeping families safely housed to helping survivors of domestic violence navigate the court system, legal aid is life-changing, and often, lifesaving.

As federal uncertainty looms, we rely more than ever on donors like you to sustain this essential safety net.

Your gift helps ensure that every Coloradan can access the legal support they need.
