On the Road to a Legal Aid License Plate

Draft license plate, subject to final design work with the Colorado Department of Revenue.

Last year, Colorado Legal Services (CLS) and several partners launched an effort to create a special Equal Justice License Plate in support of civil legal aid, and thanks to strong community engagement, the petition was a success. More than 3,000 Coloradans signed on, showing broad support for expanding access to justice and raising awareness of the essential services CLS and other legal aid organizations provide to veterans, survivors, seniors, and others facing significant legal challenges.

The signatures have now been verified by Colorado Department of Revenue, which is a critical step in the process of making the specialty plate happen. The next step is to run a bill through the Colorado General Assembly.

We will be sure to share all of the steps in the process with our supporters. If you want the most current information about the Equal Justice License Plate and other legal aid news, be sure to follow us on LinkedIn and Facebook.

Thanks to these organizations for supporting this effort: Colorado Legal Services, Colorado Center on Law and Policy, Colorado Lawyers Committee, Colorado Bar Association, Colorado Access to Justice Commission, Community Economic Defense Project, Colorado Hispanic Bar Association, and many others.
