The March edition of The Colorado Lawyer included a compelling article about the Associates Campaign and Colorado Legal Services’ work protecting victims of domestic violence.
“On March 1, 2015, the Legal Aid Foundation of Colorado (LAF) began its annual Associates Campaign for Justice. During this month-long campaign, law firm associates will spearhead efforts to raise money for Colorado Legal Services (CLS). In nearly every area of civil law, including domestic and family law, CLS provides crucial legal services at no cost to Coloradans living near or below the federal poverty threshold. The Associates Campaign provides young lawyers the opportunity to give back by assisting in these efforts, as well as offering all members of the legal community the opportunity to support equal access to justice in our state through their contributions to legal aid.
The funds LAF raises through the Associates Campaign and throughout the year allow CLS to continue its mission to provide necessary civil legal assistance to the indigent throughout Colorado. This includes protecting the victims of domestic violence by representing them in their pursuit of physical and financial security for themselves and their children. This article discusses how additional funding makes it possible for CLS to maintain and expand its services and broaden its advocacy to accept a greater portion of domestic violence cases and address other critical legal needs.
