We are excited to share that Colorado Legal Services (CLS) has been awarded a significant two-year federal grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to strengthen legal services that promote housing stability and address urgent legal needs within Colorado’s veteran community.
The new funding builds on CLS’s longstanding commitment to serving those who have served our country, reinforcing the vital role legal assistance plays in securing safety and stability.
This award will also provide a meaningful boost to CLS’s budget by freeing up other funds currently used for veteran-related cases, allowing those resources to support other pressing client needs.
Under this new grant, CLS will assist eligible veterans with civil legal issues that directly affect their housing status. This includes representation in eviction matters, help maintaining subsidized housing, and advocacy in public benefits cases. CLS may also offer advice or full representation for other legal issues when the outcome has a clear impact on a veteran’s ability to remain housed.
The grant prioritizes outreach to veterans who have historically faced heightened barriers to accessing legal assistance, including women veterans, veterans who identify as racial or ethnic minorities, veterans living in rural areas, and those who are experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
The Legal Aid Foundation congratulates CLS on this important award and is proud to highlight the expanded support this funding will bring to veterans across Colorado. These funds will help ensure that those who have served our country receive the legal advocacy and stability they deserve.
