Why the Corporate Counsel Challenge Matters: A Perspective from EchoStar’s Marisa Carney

You’ve heard a lot about the Corporate Counsel Challenge, new to this year’s Associates Campaign. But what does the Challenge mean for in house legal teams and why does it matter?

Marisa Carney, Associate Corporate Counsel at EchoStar Corporation, shares, “As a member of the Colorado legal community, I believe we have a collective responsibility to ensure that the justice system is accessible to everyone, regardless of income. For many of our neighbors, the lack of affordable legal representation can mean the difference between keeping their home, their livelihood, or even their family.”

Marisa has been a leader in the inaugural year of the Corporate Counsel Challenge, helping to rally her team and corporate colleagues to support justice for all, no matter what their income. We were excited to connect with Marisa and others at last week’s Corporate Counsel Challenge Happy Hour, where members of the corporate counsel community gathered to learn more and get involved.

“Being a part of the inaugural Corporate Counsel Challenge allows in-house teams to stand alongside our firm colleagues to provide the critical funding Colorado Legal Services needs to protect the rights of our most vulnerable neighbors,” Marisa said.

The Corporate Counsel Challenge invites in house counsel to join law firm colleagues in supporting civil legal aid across the state. As a first-year initiative, it represents an important step in expanding participation and leadership within Colorado’s broader legal community.

Even better: thanks to the generous support of the Colorado Foundation for a Better Earth, up to $50,000 in donations to the Challenge will be matched, dollar-for-dollar. Gifts to the Corporate Counsel Challenge Community Fund allow anyone to double their gift and double the justice.

As the Corporate Counsel Challenge continues to grow, there is still time for corporate counsel teams to get involved and help shape the success of this inaugural year.

Stand up for justice. Accept the Challenge today.
